A taste of Japan in Zagreb, Takenoko.
Gastronomical magic
For almost two decades, Takenoko virtuosos have been combining authentic Japanese cuisine with fusion food, creating unique and new dishes for the full gastronomic experience. Takenoko’s team enriched the gastro-scene in Zagreb and are considered to be the leaders amongst luxurious restaurants in the Capital. Meet Takenoko, the first Japanese restaurant in Croatia.
Takenoko or bamboo sprouts are a symbol of prosperity in Japan and are used in many dishes. Takenoko Zagreb has pioneered Japanese cuisine since its opening in 2002. Since then, Takenoko grew, expanded and today is a synonym for premium Japanese fusion food, considered to be the most exciting restaurant in Zagreb.
Takenoko is especially proud of their Bluefin tuna from the Adriatic Sea, always fresh and of controlled origin. Ingredients of the highest quality are mostly from Croatia and the passion of Chef Mario Starman results in pure art on every plate.

The emotions they feel when preparing unique dishes bring authentic smells and tastes. To complement the rhapsody of taste, smell, and colour of their dishes, Takenoko offers an impressive wine list, with local and Japanese drinks, and signature cocktails.
The menu is original, unique, and changes every two weeks, while the wine list is updated one to two times per year. Some of the must-try dishes include Black Cod in Saikyo Orange Sauce, Uramaki Salmon with Quail Eggs, and an all-time favourite Wok Meal.
Take-away service is available for the past 19 years. During the pandemic, they introduced home delivery for all Takenoko lovers, which will remain a permanent option. Take-away can be ordered by telephone and during working hours.

Takenoko Bar, after work gateway
Takenoko’s story continues in a newly opened Takenoko Bar. It is a brand new concept of a tapas bar, spread across two floors. The idea is to come to relax after work while enjoying signature cocktails. Marko Petrović, the renowned and awarded bartender, designed and created a unique Takenoko cocktail list. He created unique drinks for Takenoko Bar like Rokutake, Takenoko Martini and Summer Milk Punch, and many more, completing a list of almost 30 signature cocktails.
What is unique for Takenoko Bar is the cigar selection in partnership with Havana Shop and tapas with dishes from all over the world.

The elegant interior of the brand
Takenoko’s interior design reflects its sophisticated menu. Black dominates and makes space elegant, with wooden elements and accent colours of the seating zone. The interior, conceptualised by designer duo Valčić and Petljak is moody and simple.
Their newly opened Takenoko Bar follows the style of the restaurant, with a fusion of Takenoko familiar contours and romantic vintage Parisian cafe.
Styling consultant Kristina Radić kept the famous dark signature of Takenoko while making the interior glamorous with gold accents and colourful chair fabric.
