Villa Folirantica

Authentic villa in the heart of Istria

Villa Folirantica is a charming 17th-century house located in central Istria, town Foli, and it’s one of Croatia’s most beautiful luxury villas. The owner Ivica Propadalo, a prominent Croatian artist, and his wife Dragana discovered this neglected villa. They were inspired by the massive walls, preserved entirely on both the outside and inside. The couple wanted to breathe life back into the estate while preserving and restoring its authentic structure. Villa Folirantica’s unique style and location are enough on their own to persuade you to choose Croatia as your next holiday destination. It is ideal for exploring villages, historical sites, and the beautiful coast of Istria.

Restauration

Villa has 320 square meters across two floors. The lower level follows an open layout concept with a living room, dining room, and fully equipped kitchen. The total capacity of Villa Folirantica is 10 guests.

The ground floor is also home to a separate studio with a mini kitchen, bathroom, and a queen size bedroom. It opens into the living room with a fireplace and a secession sofa as the centrepiece. The levels are connected via a wide, modern and simple staircase. The anteroom, serving as a waiting room, is a colourful space with impressive roof beams.

The upper level has a master bedroom with an atelier and an ensuite bathroom, two guestrooms, a study, and a bathroom with access to a rustic terrace. Access to the courtyard is via two exits that lead to a covered terrace and pool area. The courtyard is perfect for outdoor dining, either on a barbecue or in a brick oven. The most impressive part of the renovation is a fully restored roof. Original wooden ceiling beams support the upper floor, creating a cosy and warm ambience.

Design

The interior is a fusion of traditional and modern style. To accomplish this delicate balance, the owners spent time looking for authentic vintage items at flea markets. The kitchen is an excellent example of a blend of styles that exist in perfect harmony. Industrial counters on wheels are matched with an impressive vintage porcelain-tiled stove. Bedrooms are individually designed, with unique colour schemes of pink and blue. A gramophone tube is converted to a chic chandelier, and an old bike that came with the house is the accent decor of the living room. As the owner is an awarded artist, a purple Porin is showcased as well as many unique paintings and sculptures created for celebrities including members of the Rolling Stones, Nick Cave, Carlos Santana, Sting, and others.

Every item in the house has a story that makes Villa Folirantica a uniquely designed experience that will impress anyone that stays here.
